Dr Albert Schweitzer
Dr Albert Schweitzer (1875-1965): Doctor of Medicine, musicologist, writer, humanitarian, theologian, philosopher and distinguished organist devoted his life to healing and preaching at his jungle hospital in Lambarene, Republic of Gabon. His work in Africa received worldwide acclaim and he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1952, for his “altruism, reverence for life, and tireless humanitarian work which has helped to make the idea of brotherhood between men and nations a living one". He was an intensely private man. However, John Robert Young was one of the few photographers allowed to document his daily life.
