The French Foreign Legion: Camerone Day, 30 April , marks the beginning of the Legion year and is one of the most important days in the calendar of every Legionnaire. Bearded pioneers with their distinctive leather aprons and gleaming axes march at Aubagne, in southern France, the Headquarters of the Legion. It is one of the few occasions when the public can view the Legion and it's traditions at close quarters.
