Exploring the Landscape: Turner Valley, Alberta, Canada is Alberta's birthplace of the oil and gas industry. The discovery oil and gas in 1914 and crude oil in 1936 created a boom area. By 1950 drilling activity ceased and moved to another area of Alberta, leaving behind ghost towns and derelict plant sites, which have now been made into tourist attractions.
